Preferences

The Prompt Display prefs allow you to select whether to display the prompts to the left, right, or centered. It also allows you to choose a font and a size for the text in the prompt window.

The first few items of the Script parameters are covered in the 'Scripting' section of this manual. Auto increment script tells VoicePro to move to the next line immediately after recording. This is useful for very rapid recording jobs, like lists of words. If you need to do more than 1 take of a line, you should disable this preference.

Append A.B.C to non-scripted takes determines the behaviour of VoicePro when scripting is disabled. Normally it will append numeric suffixes to the filenames , eg -001, -002 etc. This preference uses -A, -B, -C instead.

The threshold auto-stop parameters are useful for situations where the talent may be recording themself. In this case, you need to avoid having the click of a keystroke captured into the recoreded file. This also works in conjunction with the 'delay before recording' pref, to work as shown below:
1) Talent presses the record button/key.
2) Voicepro waits 480 msecs for the sound of the key to settle, then enters record mode
3) The talent speaks, and after completing the line, the talent is silent.
4) Voicepro detects the silence, and automatically stops recording, without the need for the talent to make any sound by clicking the keyboard or mouse.

The threshold stop level is the 'quiet' level VoicePro expects to hear before stopping, whilst the stop time is the duration over which it expects quiet before stopping. This also determines the time the speaker has to _begin_ speaking at the start of the recording.

Auto Play on Stop, will make VoicePro automatically audition the recording you have made as soon as you press stop.

'Auto Overwrite Dupes' and 'Auto Rename Dupes' determines how VoicePro deals with subsequent scripted recordings. if you only want a single file for each line, using the 'Auto Overwrite Dupes' option will allow you to keep recording into the same filename over and over, until you are happy, leaving just a single file with the correct name. Auto Rename will sucessively rename previous takes with ~ symbols. The last recording you make will have the correct filename with no added ~s

Prompt Beeps makes a small tone at the start of each recording, to cue your talent to begin. The 'Prebeep' option makes the beep BEFORE starting to record, which is necesary for some sound hardware, or if you want to be really certain the beep wont bleed from headphones into the recording. Otherwise, the beep will sound once the recording has begun, and you can be sure that you will not clip the start of the recording if the talent is very eager to start speaking.

VoicePro can recording SD2 or AIF files, and this is chosen below.

Finally, you can setup text categories for rating your takes. These items appear in the pop up menu in the Recordings window, or by pressing the 1-7 keys on the numeric keypad whilst selecting the take(s) you want to rate in the recordings window. Note that these categories assign 'group / member' data to the files which can be viewed in SampleSearch from Gallery.
