Not only is Mtools the fastest and most flexible Sound Effects system available, its the only system which includes a Surround Sound architecture. Mtools allows you to use 5.1 effects with the same ease as mono or stereo effects.
Included with Mtools (Full version) is BuildSurroundFX, a tool which performs batch conversion of your 5.1 Sound effect stems into self contained 6 channel PMAF files. Single file sound effects make file management much easier, and offer the same ease of use in Mtools as a stereo or mono file. The Mtools client multichannel mixer pops up whenever you play a 5.1 or PMAF file, allowing the user to instantly hear the content of ALL channels of an effect, try muting surrounds, LFE etc, examining individual channels with Solo, all before importing the effect to Pro Tools.

 

5.1 and PMAF Surround sounds work exactly the same within the Mtools Database, and can be added to Pull lists, tagged etc. When delivering Surround Sets to Pro Tools the PMAF file is broken back into the 5.1 mono files and the 6 channels can be spotted directly to the users cursor selection in Pro Tools, within a single 5.1 track, or optionally onto 6 mono tracks.
